SERVICES FOR SCHOOLS

Children spend a large proportion of their time at school, where the teachers have a direct impact on their development, not only academically but also socially and emotionally. It is therefore not enough for teachers to be trained on how to teach, but also how to engage with children to bring about an optimal learning and growing environment. Furthermore, teachers are faced with the management and support of a wide range of needs within their class groups, which require further understanding and tools to best support the individuals in the group as well as maintain a balanced environment for the group as a whole.

As a social worker who works therapeutically with children, parents and families, I am acutely aware of the role that the school plays in the well-being of the child. I have also experienced teaching first-hand, in my current work with schools and previous work experience (See my Resume) in an environment where my class required not only academic remediation but also emotional support, and know how taxing this can become. I firmly believe that all the systems in the child's life need to be supported if we are to see the child thrive. To this end, I provide the below services to schools.

All sessions are booked at R650 per hour for individuals and R750 for groups and workshops.

TEACHER WORKSHOPS/TEACHER SUPPORT

Teaching is about so much more than academic achievements. For a child to learn optimally, that child needs to feel safe and supported. Children cannot challenge themselves and grow resilient without this.  I offer training sessions for teachers who want to better understand and support the children that they teach.  These sessions cover a range of topics, from child development to behavioural management.  I aim to inspire teachers to be trauma-informed, and whole-brain focused; to benefit from creating a safe environment and healthy teacher-learner relationships. Information can also be tailored to include support for teachers that teach children with ASD, AD(H)D, PDA and Attachment difficulties/disorders (adoption, foster care or safety placement included)

These are offered in blocks of 8 1 hour support and guidance sessions where we consider the latest research, useful tools and teaching approaches whilst creating opportunities for application and feedback. Once the block of training is completed, I remain available to support the school or individual teachers as needed.

POLICY DEVELOPMENT

School policies cannot only focus on academic structures and development but also have to consider behaviour management and safety structures. Although there is information available to schools in terms of application of legislation such as the Protection from Harassment Act 71 of 2011, The Child Justice Act 75 of 2008, the Children's Act 38 of 2005 and the South African Schools Act84 of 1996, it can be difficult for schools to apply these to their specific environment and policies. My role is to support schools to look at their policies as well as the measures for application and to support schools in areas where matters are not easily resolved.

TEACHER SUPPORT

Being a teacher can be significantly taxing, especially for the teacher who wants to see the children in their classes thrive. Teachers often require individual support, either in terms of advice and support for teaching specific children or on an emotional level to prevent becoming overwhelmed and burn-out. I provide individual or group support sessions either through the school or for teachers in their private capacity.

PARENT WORKSHOPS

I offer training sessions for parents and caregivers who want to better understand and support the children in their care. These sessions cover a range of topics, from child development to behavioural management.  I aim to inspire parents, caregivers and teachers to be trauma-informed, whole whole-brain focused and to benefit from healthy bonds and attachments. Information is also tailored to the family's needs and can include support for parents with children with ASD, AD(H)D, PDA and Attachment difficulties/disorders (adoption, foster care or safety placement included)

These are offered in blocks of 8 support and guidance sessions where we consider the latest research, useful tools, and your parenting approach whilst creating opportunities for application and feedback.
