About Sue-Ann Richardson
I have always been inspired by people, especially children, and decided to become a social worker to live out this passion. I completed my social work degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 2009 and have not stopped learning and growing. I have journeyed through community development in the deeply rural areas of the eastern cape, delved into advocacy and awareness of the rights of children and families, including safety, foster and adoptive families, and lived and worked at a cluster foster care facility where I was a teacher and a social worker. When I started my own family I decided to move into private practice in Fish Hoek, where I have worked with multi-disciplinary teams to provide the best therapeutic support to my clients.
I believe in continuous development and teamwork, to that end I am a member of SAASWIPP (South African Association for Social Workers in Private Practice), I am an active participant in peer supervision groups, I serve on the board of Far South Counseling, and I serve on the board of Capella House,
I am also a partner at The Family Counselling Centre where I see my private clients and continue to grow the availability and quality of services within Southern Peninsula.
As a parent, I have deep empathy and understanding for my peers doing their best for their children.
As a mother of an adopted child, I live with the depth of the primal wound yet the hope of new attachments.
As a wife, I know that relationships are not always rosy and that hard work and good communication are crucial for depth and joy.
As a South African, I am acutely aware of the effects of trauma that perforates our community.
As a teacher, I know that passion and care are the starting blocks, but that in itself is not enough.
As a perpetual child, I have always been inspired by the simplicity yet complexity of children.
I am a social worker in private practice providing family-focused, individually sensitive, and trauma-informed services to children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families. I also offer parent, caregiver, and teacher training to better understand and support the children in their care. I am dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment where my clients can explore their thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental way. It is my goal to help my clients achieve their full potential and lead a fulfilling life. I believe that knowing ourselves better, leads to a greater understanding of what we need, to learn how to meet our own needs, whether through self, family, or community.
