support for adults

Social work and psychology are oriented towards the same outcome: recognizing and treating mental illness, and empowering individuals to improve their own lives. While they sometimes overlap and intersect, each profession approaches their work with individuals in a distinctive manner. As a social worker, I am trained to provide counselling support to individuals and families and to understand how people function and fit into their environment whilst also looking at practical solutions and tools that empower my clients to grow and reach their goals. When you see me for support, no challenge is too small, and yes, you deserve support. It is better to ask for assistance when you are still coping but struggling than to wait until you are completely overwhelmed. All are welcome but I am not specialised in the field of addiction or mental health diagnoses; if you need recovery counselling/support or a mental health diagnosis, kindly see my referrals page for more information on those I trust to support you.

Themes that I do work with:

  • relationship struggles

  • loss or grief

  • understanding yourself and your behaviours

  • trauma

  • stress, tension, and anxiety

  • adjustment to stages of life

  • finding a healthy work-life balance

  • feeling overwhelmed

  • parenting strategies

My goal is to help you understand yourself better, when you know yourself you are better able to identify what you need and find ways to meet those needs.

All sessions are booked at R650 per hour for children under 12, R630 for adolescents and adults and R750 for couples or families. My practice is cash-based, all clients are required to settle payment before the session. I am registered with most medical aids and will assist you where possible to claim back from your medical aid, but ultimately each client is responsible for their account.

adult therapeutic intervention

No challenge is too small and every person is entitled to receive help and support. Whatever you are facing, come chat to me and together we will see how best I can support you.  I do not only consider your mind and your heart but also your body, making using of somatic techniques and a polyvagal approach to bring balance and integration as a whole. After the intake session we will have set some goals and devised a way forward to create predictability and align expectations.

A team approach might be indicated, where together we will pull on the resources of doctors, homeopaths or psychiatrists. If you are struggling with addiction and need recovery counselling/support or need a mental health diagnosis, please look at the referrals page for professionals that can support you.

couples therapeutic intervention

For some couples, the aim is to develop their relationship and work on strengthening and growing intimacy whilst other couples need to put in the time and effort to work through their challenges. Relationships can be rich and meaningful if you take action. Couples therapy is an opportunity to reconnect, rediscover yourself and your partner, and develop new communication techniques  and conflict management tools. I walk this journey with you, facilitating difficult conversations and creating a safe space to rediscover who you are as a unit made up of two individuals.

Couples come in for an intake session during which we will determine a plan for the way for ward.

tension and trauma release exercises (TRE ® )

TRE® is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return to a state of balance.

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (or TRE®) is based on the fundamental idea, backed by research, that stress, tension and trauma are both psychological and physical.

TRE® is designed to be a self-help tool that, once learned, can be used independently throughout one’s life, thereby continuously supporting and promoting personal health and wellness.

After an intake session, we will book a minimum of 6 TRE® sessions or slot you into a TRE® group, depending on availability.

I offer training sessions for parents, caregivers, and teachers who want to better understand and support the children in their care. Whether you need professional support to deal with major challenges, or need support adjusting to the responsibility of raising young people, I would be privileged to work with you. These sessions cover various topics, from child development to behaviour management.  I aim to inspire parents, caregivers and teachers to be trauma-informed, whole whole-brain focused and to benefit from healthy bonds and attachments. Information is tailored to the family's needs and can include support for parents with children with ASD, AD(H)D, PDA and attachment difficulties/disorders (adoption, foster care or safety placement included)

These are offered in blocks of 8 support and guidance sessions where we consider the latest research, useful tools, and your parenting approach whilst creating opportunities for application and feedback.
